Our History
Standing proudly on Dover’s iconic seafront, Dover Marina Hotel & Spa is a landmark hotel with a rich history stretching back to the 19th century. Originally built in 1856, the hotel has welcomed generations of guests, statesmen and travellers, evolving over time while retaining its timeless character and sense of occasion.
Most notably, the hotel has strong historical links to Sir Winston Churchill, who was a frequent visitor during his lifetime. Its position overlooking the English Channel placed it at the heart of British history, offering a strategic and symbolic vantage point during some of the nation’s most defining moments.

1856
The hotel opens on Dover’s seafront as a grand Victorian property for travellers arrivingby sea and rail.

Early – Mid 20th Century
Known as the White Cliffs Hotel and later The Churchill Hotel , with historical links to Sir Winston Churchill.

2010
Reimagined as Dover Marina Hotel & Spa , introducing Waterfront Spa and the Health Club & Gym

Later Years
Major investment transforms public areas, introduces the Winston Suite, and expands the hotel to 122 rooms and suites.

2025
Dover Marina Hotel & Spa officially joined the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, marking a major milestone that blends its unique personality with global hospitality standards
